Nobel Laureate Donna Strickland Visits ICFO
ICFOnians are honored by a visit from a highly celebrated colleague in the field of optics
On Thursday, March 14th, Donna Strickland, professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo, leader of the Ultrafast Laser Group, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2018 and member of ICFO’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), visited ICFO.
As a trailblazer in a field that many ICFOnians have worked in, benefited from, or followed closely, with strongest research ties with the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics group led by ICREA professor at ICFO Dr. Jens Biegert, Prof. Strickland’s scientific insights and anecdotes generated a great deal of interest in our community. Her colloquium, “From Nonlinear Optics to High-Intensity Laser Physics” was delivered to a packed auditorium. In addition, she visited several labs and offered an informal Q&A Coffee Session in the Elements room, giving researchers from all different areas of the institute the opportunity to meet and interact.
