Nonlinear mid-Infrared and THz Sources
We develop novel techniques for the generation of tunable coherent radiation in the mid-infrared and THz spectrum based on optical parametric oscillators in combination with difference frequency generation in new nonlinear materials using solid-state, fiber, and semiconductor pump lasers.
The main focus is to access the difficult mid-IR wavelength regions of 4-12 m as well as the 0.2-10 THz spectrum. All operating time-scales, from the continuous-wave (cw) and pulsed nanosecond to the ultrafast picosecond and femtosecond regime are investigated. Applications of the technology include spectroscopy, imaging, trace gas detection and sensing, breath analysis, and minimally invasive human surgery.
