ICFO Social Program
The ICFOnians Social Program was established to facilitate the integration of members of the ICFO community as well as to familiarize them with the culture and traditions of Catalonia
Every year, ICFO organizes a number of fixed activities that are fully or partially subsidized by the institute. Although these activities are not compulsory, ICFOnians are strongly encouraged to participate as they provide an excellent introduction to the culture and traditions of the area and an opportunity to get to know colleagues from all areas of the institute, beyond the scope of each individual’s specific research activities.
Sant Jordi: For many, this uniquely Catalan annual celebration of a book and a rose is one of the most beautiful of the year.
Castanyada: In celebration of the popular tradition associated with All Saints’ Day, ICFOnians come together to enjoy “castanyas” (chestnuts) and marzipan pastries (panellets).
Calçotada: The Calçotada is typically Catalan outdoor gastronomic event featuring grilled onions and delicious romesco sauce.
Summer Activity: This summer get together brings together ICFOnians that are at the institute only for the summer with ICFOnians that are here throughout the year.
International Food Festival: ICONS student organization organizes a friendly cooking competition where teams of ICFOnians prepare foods from around the world for all to taste and enjoy.
ICFO Day: We dedicate a full day to learn all that is happening at ICFO and to explore the interests of our fellow ICFOnians. ICFO Day includes lab tours, talks and activities to get to know colleagues from all areas of the institute. The full day event ends with a holiday celebration.
